OUR MISSION

Harambe Social Services exists to promote the wellbeing of people of the African Diaspora and others who are impacted by domestic and sexual violence by providing culturally relevant services rooted in trauma informed and survivor-centered .

Harambe is a 501c3 community-based victim/survivor-centered organization providing advocacy, crisis intervention and therapeutic counseling services, emergency temporary lodging and transitional housing, financial assistance to adult victims of intimate partner violence including sexual assault based on need. Harambe, also provides therapeutic group and individual counseling for children ages 5-17 years old who are witnesses of violence.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Unity

Our community must be united in the belief that victims/survivors must be, valued embraced and reassured that their abuse is not their fault.

Self Determination

Survivors have the right to define themselves, create a new life for themselves and reclaim power and control over their lives.

Collective Work and Responsibility

All forms of violence in Black communities is our business. The community must work together to build peaceful homes.

Cooperative Economics

Survivors deserve to learn new skills that lead to their personal financial empowerment.

Purpose

Survivors have a right to be restored to their potential greatness.

Creativity

Our communities require creative approaches towards outreach and creative methods towards healing.

Faith

We believe with all our hearts that our people will lead the struggle to overcome violence in our homes and eliminate violence in our communities.

Healing

Healing of the mind, body and soul is attainable for all victims through community support, quality care, and the survivor’s will.
